hi brooklynne,
i LOVE your program. i emailed you last week and don't know if you got it, but this week i am writing about all the podcasts on my blog (knitspot.com). today i am covering the newest podcasts (those produced so far in 2006). if you have a few minutes and can take a look, i would appreciate it!
i love lace knitting too, and though i may not seem subversive now, when i was in high school and college i wore all black and got piercings and was a punk! i was also scolded and made fun of by everyone for my "domestic" habit of knitting (that was in the 70s and 80s). nevertheless, i knitted always and i loved it, so maybe i waas subversive! i am extra thrilled to have blogs and podcasts now where ALL of us can meet and share our art.
thanks for putting your program out there for everyone!

I really appreaciated your essay. Your example just shows that knitters are from all age groups, backgrounds, etc. Just using myself as an example - I am in my early 30s, married w/ 1 kid, and I live in the suburbs. But I work. I am a professional. When I tell people that I knit, I get shocked looks as well. I think there is the stereotype that people in my situation that knit are stay at home moms.

You're a knitter. I'm a knitter. We're all knitters. The world is full of knitters. Isn't that great?

Great music as always. I LOVE the Lesley Gore song. The new version is fabulous.

I enjoyed your essay. And that new version of You Don't Own Me is great.
I have no 'punk' yarn stores near me to report. Most of the ones I go to are the kind where you get unfriendly looks from the little old lady behind the counter.

Hey Brooklynne,

well, no, I'm not saying that you're like Beatrice Arthur...it's just that I find the quality of your voice is kind of masculine. Like that of Bea Arthur, that's why. ;)

To be frank, I was sceptical about your show at first, but I'm starting it like it now after the second show! Thanks for visiting my blog! Keep visiting! And keep on doing the great podcast!

Hi Brooklynne!

I'm loving your show. Being of the alternative knitting community, myself (read: married to a sideshow performer, no kids, and having a penchant for skull motifs), it's right on target!

I've got lots of LYSs for you, if you want 'em. We travel a LOT with the show, and I've seen the good and the bad and the ugly when it comes to yarnstores. Do you have one of those places to call for audio comments? (My hard drive's down for the count on the computer with the mic, or I'd just record 'em and mail 'em that way.)

Let me know! artgirl(at)gmail(dot)com.

I really like the show so far! I wanted to let you know about a funny, punkish online knitting/craft magazine that I found recently. My favorite idea from it was the "Curse your Boyfriend Sweater," which probably should have been a curse your significant other sweater, but still a funny idea! :o)

Brooklynne,

Your show is awesome. I really enjoy the music and your clever sense of humor. I find myself laughing out loud thoughout your show. I have a few LYS favorites. I live in the "other Bay Area"...Tampa Bay. But, I often travel to Maine. My favorite LYS in Tampa is "Knit n Knibble". They feed you while you knit. In Maine, I love Pine Tree Yarns in Damariscotta because the natural dye colors are beautiful. Knit on, rock on.

Hi Brooklynne - Leslie Gore!! Who knew? And that's a great version of YDOM :)

My ex-girlfriend used to say I couldn't crochet in front of her because she would laugh. Just one of the many reasons she's now my ex....

Good luck with Project Lame Way,

I love your show and format. I hadn't given Leslie Gore the credit she really deserved until now. I'm addicted to Project Runway, also. They HAD to keep Santino around until the end because he is so interesting. I can't wait to see your polyester masterpiece.

Hi Brooklynne -- Great episode. You sounded so upbeat and excited about what you were talking about. Unfortunately the knitted vagina doesn't do anything for me :-(

Great show. "You Don't Own Me" is one of my favorite 60s songs, but I may like this version even better. This rendition sounds darker, from a real survivor's perspective--go Lesley Gore! And thanks for sharing this song with us, Brooklynne.
I think you choose cool music, and if you feel more comfortable playing more music than talking, then I think you should go with that. Maybe you could alternate the different segments weekly, like the punk-friendly LYS, subversive knitting, and punk patterns, so that you don't have to feel pressure to do these segments for every show.
Anyway, keep up the good work, and good luck on project lame way!

Hello!

I am putting together a collection of promos from all of the knitting/crocheting podcasts out there. If you have a promo (it can even just be a clip from a longer show with the name of your podcast, etc.) please email it to me and I'll be sure it's on the show this week! Thanks!!

Hi Brooklyn Anne

This is Maribel from the Bronx, but I actually live there...lol
I love listening to your podcast, this coming from a metal head that listens to metal while knitting socks. I wanted to let you know about a great new store in NYC. Its called "the Point" It is a knitting cafe in the West Village, they have a great latte and they don't make you feel like you have to spend alot or anything to be there. Helpful and the prices are right on line. Since they are in Greenwich Village they have knitting night for the boys which is a big hit and they do alot of charity work as well. In the summer they have a great cruise around NYC for knitters and I can't stay away when they have their holiday sales.

Their site is www.thepointnyc.com

Thanks for your great podcast.
